Meet Angela Leal, WFCO Senior Accountant

Angela Leal joined The Women’s Foundation of Colorado as the new Senior Accountant in June 2024. Angela is passionate about supporting women, particularly in advocating for their rights and ensuring they have a voice in healthcare decisions. Tell us something not many people know about you?

This is a hard question for me. I’m an open book, but there are a couple things some people don’t know about me, I am an only child, I’m an extremely picky eater and hate most all vegetables, yuk 😊

Why is supporting women a top priority for you?

So many things have happened at the federal level that rights for women have been taken away, without even getting to have a say so. It is critical for women to have a say in their own healthcare and decision making, for their own bodies.

What is your vision of equity for women in Colorado?

That there would be safe and affordable housing and healthcare for women.

What do you believe is the most pressing issue women and families are facing in Colorado?

Housing, inflation, safety, equal pay, so many things.

Who is your Shero? Who have been the leaders/mentors on your journey?

This is a tough question. I’ve had many mentors through the years. First, my mom, she taught me how to be strong and know that no matter what life throws at me, I can get through it. This has served me well through my career. Second, a CFO named, Kari Chapman. She gave me a job when I was going through a very hard journey in my career and taught me things I didn’t know and lifted me up to have confidence in myself and what I can contribute to an organization. Finally, my soul sister, Michelle Scobie. She’s gone through so many trials and tribulations in her life. Her strength and confidence has gotten me through so many things personally and career wise. These women are my Shero’s!

If you had to teach a class, what would it be?

I would love to teach knitting. It’s not a class in any school system, but it is one that is near and dear to my heart, and I enjoy teaching others how to knit.

Where do you find the most joy in your life?

Spending time with my family and friends, knitting, watching KU Football & Basketball, the Dallas Cowboys and traveling. Most of our family lives in California, Kansas, Michigan, and Oregon. When we travel it is usually to one of these places.

What would you tell your 15-year-old self?

Focus on your Spanish courses. Take as many as you can, go to a country that speaks Spanish and immerse yourself in it. Be able to read, write and converse in Spanish. In today’s world speaking Spanish is a huge asset.

What is your favorite place or activity to do in Colorado?

Love going to Estes Park and up to Rocky Mountain National Park. Being in the mountains in general as well, no matter what the season is.
