Our Strength Is Solidarity

We Are Inspired By Those Who Demonstrated With Bold Action, Collective Care, and Voices Too Loud to Ignore

Immigration raids, deportations without due process, attacks on civil rights, and deep cuts to health care, food assistance, and vital resources don’t just hurt individuals — they weaken entire communities. These coordinated efforts are intended to silence and divide, but they have not succeeded.

This past week, we found inspiration in those who demonstrated with bold action, collective care, and voices too loud to ignore. They enriched the legacy and built upon the lasting impact of women-led movements throughout history that have shown us transformative change is always possible.

We honor those activists without whom we would not be marking Juneteenth and Pride this month: Sojourner Truth and Harriett Tubman who fought to end slavery; Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth;” Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera who launched the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement at Stonewall; Brenda Howard, the “Mother of Pride.”

Their courage challenges each of us to examine our responses to today’s assaults on diversity, equity, inclusion, immigrants, and transgender individuals.

We invite you to join our statewide community foundation as we protect rights, celebrate hard-fought wins, and nurture community connections.

Here’s where together we can make a difference:

  • Fund Justice Directly Support to WFCO supports our Women & Girls of Color Fund and WINcome grantee partners that are doing essential, transformational work in our communities. Too often, they sacrifice their needs to meet the needs of others, which includes housing, food, immigration services, career pathways, entrepreneurial opportunities, and safe spaces for marginalized communities to thrive.
  • Show Up and Celebrate Do not let them divide and silence us. Resist with joy and resilience. Participate in Juneteenth and Pride events in your community. We were at Juneteenth Music Festival last weekend and hope you’ll join us at the Denver Pride 5K on June 28 or at one of these events across our state. You can also join us at our Annual Luncheon on September 19 with special guest, Abby Wambach – get your tickets, tables, and sponsorships today
  • Call for Justice and Community Care Contact your U.S. Senators to ask them to vote NO on the inaptly named “One Big, Beautiful Bill” that slashes Medicaid and SNAP for our neighbors and community members.
  • Support Community-Led Businesses Shop at BIPOC and LGBTQ+owned businesses throughout the year, not just during celebration months.
  • Connect with WFCO Throughout Colorado Join us for upcoming community events across our state.

For The Women’s Foundation of Colorado, the choice is clear. Achieving a future where Colorado women of every background and identity prosper is only possible in solidarity with community-led movements for gender, racial, economic, reproductive, immigrant, labor, and LGBTQ+ justice. Justice is not divisible.

Women should be able to live as and express their whole selves, without fearing for their safety, autonomy, health, or wellbeing.  This moment of expanding extremism and rising risk demands our collective commitment to community care, vigilance, and courage. Our strength is solidarity.
