WFCO #metoo Statement
The #metoo movement is not new and neither are the traumas of survivors. Since the movement’s proliferation last year, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado has applauded the brave women using their voices to come forward with their stories of sexual assault and harassment in the workplace and beyond. We also stand with women who decide the risks are too great for them to come forward.
For generations, women and girls who reported abuses of power and shared stories of the negative impacts on their lives, have been silenced, discounted, and discredited. Too often, women must scale multiple barriers to fulfilling their potential, from sexual harassment by supervisors to inequitable access to economic opportunities. We also must recognize the compounding infliction of lifelong pain that sexual violence can have on survivors.
It is time for all men and women to commit to a culture that does not condone or excuse any gender-based violence, harassment, or bias — today and every day.
We must hold accountable those whose actions continue to hold back our mothers, daughters, sisters, colleagues, neighbors, and friends. Safety and respect for all women and girls – regardless of their background, identity, or status – should never be questioned or compromised. It is time for all men and women to commit to a culture that does not condone or excuse any gender-based violence, harassment, or bias — today and every day.
