The Women’s Foundation of Colorado Announces Abby Wambach – Game Changer On and Off the Field – as Annual Luncheon Speaker

Wambach Will Headline State’s Largest Fundraiser on Behalf of Women as Women’s Sports Reach New Heights in Colorado

The Women’s Foundation of Colorado (WFCO) announces that Abby Wambach, co-captain of 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion Team, will headline our Annual Luncheon, “Game Changer: Women Leading On and Off the Field,” on Sept. 19, 2025. Hosted every fall, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s Annual Luncheon is the largest fundraiser and community-building event in the state to benefit the economic advancement of Colorado women and their families. The event draws up to 2,000 donors, advocates, nonprofit professionals, business executives, and community members every year to invest in the work of The Women’s Foundation of Colorado.

Named one of TIME Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World,” Wambach is renowned as a transformational leader on the field. She possesses a World Cup victory, two Olympic gold medals, and a record-breaking career as one of soccer’s greatest goal scorers. Her motivational and inspirational speaking engagements are grounded in the lessons she learned as an elite global athlete, such as using failure as fuel, inspiring others to believe in their strength, and leaning into authenticity.

Abby Wambach’s legacy extends beyond the soccer field

Wambach’s legacy extends beyond the soccer field, too. She is the best-selling author of “WOLFPACK” based on her viral 2018 commencement speech at Barnard College about the fight for equal pay and gender equality. She also co-authored “We Can Do Hard Things” with her wife Glennon Doyle and sister-in-law Amanda Doyle. Together, they now co-host an award-winning podcast by the same name. Bringing grit and passion to every arena she enters, Abby often and openly discusses important topics such as gender, sexuality, mental health, and sobriety.

“The Women’s Foundation of Colorado clinched a victory by securing Abby Wambach as our Annual Luncheon speaker. Abby’s appearance is timely and relevant as the excitement for women’s soccer and women’s sports reaches a crescendo in Colorado,” said WFCO President & CEO Renee Ferrufino. “More importantly, Abby’s messages of amplifying every voice, empowering others, and uniting to ignite change align with The Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s beliefs and are what our community needs to hear right now. She exemplifies what it means to be a game changer.”

Women’s sports in Colorado reach new heights

Wambach’s appearance at the annual luncheon in September will accelerate the building momentum for women’s sports in Colorado. The state’s newly announced National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will begin playing in 2026. The club broke an NWSL record for season ticket deposits with more than 10,000 in just two months since the club was launched. Additionally, Denver drew 14,018 fans to a Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) game hosted on neutral ice in January 2025.

About The Women’s Foundation of Colorado

The Women’s Foundation of Colorado is the only statewide, community-funded foundation protecting the progress and advancing gender, racial, and economic equity for all Colorado women. WFCO leverages community investments and multiple tools to dismantle systemic barriers, close equity gaps, and build a more just and prosperous state for all women, especially those facing the steepest barriers to opportunity because of their backgrounds and identities. Since our founding in 1987, The Women’s Foundation of Colorado has granted over $30 million to nonprofit organizations across the state. WFCO has also helped to pass dozens of policies that advance opportunities for women, such as the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, universal pre-kindergarten, and FAMLI (Colorado family and medical leave insurance).
