Meet Jennifer Kilpatrick, WFCO Chief Financial Officer
Jennifer (Jen) Kilpatrick of Niwot was named chief financial officer of The Women’s Foundation of Colorado in October 2023 after serving as interim chief financial officer since April 2023. Before joining WFCO she volunteered on the WFCO audit & finance committee. She has served as a fractional CFO and CFO of Community Foundation Boulder County.
Tell us something not many people know about you?
I wanted to be an artist. I love all art but especially painting. When I was a young girl and it was time to pick a career path, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to support myself as an artist. So, I decided to pursue an accounting degree. Today, my artistic desires live through my spreadsheets.
If you had a personal philanthropic mission statement or slogan, what would it say?
If I had to come up with a philanthropic mission statement it would say, “Jennifer’s mission is to empower nonprofit organizations to achieve their financial goals through useful, meaningful, and easy to interpret financial information”. I am committed to helping all constituents within the nonprofit organization understand and be able to use the financial information to maintain financial accountability of the organization.
What about our mission inspires you?
It is such a privilege working at a Foundation where the mission is to advance and accelerate economic opportunity for women! For me it’s the one word alone – Women. Colorado women have some much on their plate to manage. They need help and resources to thrive. Their children and families are depending on them! We need to support each other and help women thrive which will lead to communities thriving.
What do you believe is the most pressing issue women and families are facing in Colorado?
In my opinion, the most pressing issue is access to affordable and safe housing for Colorado women and families. Rising rent and mortgage costs is a serious concern for many women and families teetering on the brink of homelessness.
Who have been the leaders/mentors on your journey?
There are so many amazing people that have touched my heart over the years but without a doubt Josie Health (a WFCO honorary trustee) has been an important mentor and leader that inspired me in so many ways as a community activist, educator, political contender, and civic leader. I was fortunate to work alongside Josie at the Community Foundation Boulder County where she served as president for over 25 years.
Where do you find the most joy in your life?
Spending time with my husband and three children. They are the lights of my life and fulfill my dreams.
What would you tell your 15-year-old self?
Don’t worry so much! Have fun and hold on for the wild ride ahead.
